As I read it, it maybe true. According to the article, it was said the software piracy is down. It could be good news for some people and bad news for others. You know what I mean. Not everyone is mad with regard the issue of software piracy. Some are happy with piracy stuff.
But looking at my "environment", I see the piracy is "intact". Of course I can't be sure whether it goes down or up because my observation is superficial. I realize there are still many stores selling pirate software. Logically who wants to buy expensive one when you could get cheaper one with the same or at least almost same quality.
The key may be the enforcement. If the enforcement now is good, it must be improved to be better. Or I recommended for the original software to be less expensive so it could affordable. And this may persuade end-users to get the original one.
Software. Good stuff. Everyone could download them. Too many source. Some downloading activities are not violating the laws. I think the authorities should make clear about this issue. We don't want the end-users to be blamed for the use for software in which they are allowed to just download it for free.
KUALA LUMPUR: The rate of software piracy in the country has been declining over the past two years.
Business Software Alliance (BSA), a software industry advocate, said the rate had dropped from 59% in 2008 to 56% last year.
Its senior director of marketing for Asia Pacific, Roland Chan, said the decline was due to the Government's aggressive enforcement measures.
However, he said, the commercial value of unlicensed software had increased to US$606mil (RM1.82bil) last year compared to US$453mil (RM1.36bil) in 2009.
