Can Our Youths Handle Sex?

The cases on dumped and abandoned babies, I believe, at the first place, will give us the impression how "incapable" our teenager in dealing with sex. But the following news I read in The Star Online early this morning shows us otherwise.
Just to quote a part of the news.

Most Youths Don’t Want To Have Pre-marital Sex

PETALING JAYA: Parents may not have to “lock up” their children until they are all grown up - an online survey shows that a majority of today’s youth are not rushing into sex.

About 46.5% said that they would only have sex when they were married and 26.2% said they would only “do it” when they felt ready. Another 6.7% said they would only have sex when they were at least 18 years old.

The Sunday Star online survey “Let’s Talk Sex” with YouthSays and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) questioned 2,795 young people aged 15 to 25 throughout the country.

It was aimed at probing what the perception on sex is among young people, following the recent public frenzy on pre-marital sex, teen pregnancies and baby dumping cases.

It's not that I'm doubting this survey or doubting the "rationality" that most our teenagers have when dealing with sex. But looking in context, we read about abandoned babies or free sex among teens almost everyday, and this is not reflecting the conducted survey above.

Moreover the survey above involve only 2,795 young people 15 to 25 throughout the country. I personally think it is small in number, thus I doubted it wholly represents the view of youths on sex. But to view it in positive perspective, the survey gives us some relief knowing that there are still a lot of our youths out there who have the stand they won't have sex until they are legally married.

bro salah seorang yang jawab survey tu ke? good good. aku pun macam nak join youthsays, tp rasa can dah terlambat jer.
