As-Salam. In our daily lives, we have to make a choice. It can be a small thing such as the food you want to eat for breaking fast or the clothes to be wore, to the huge decision such as the career of your life or your companion.
I remember the first most difficult decision I had to make when I was a kid. I was 12 years old and I did well for my UPSR. I got good offers from a few boarding schools. I can't really remember how many offers but if I am not mistaken it was about 5 to 6 offers.
Finally I end up in MRSM and completed by high school as MRSM Alumni. This just a piece of situation where people had to make a decision. And once you made a decision you must be willing to face all the possibilities that will come later. And I believe that is just normal because that's how human lives work.
As for Muslims, we are taught that when we are required to make a decision and it is a very hard decision, "istikharah" is the best method that we could do. We humbly pray to Allah for His guides and to give us "direction" on which option should we choose.

In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing. -- The 26th President of the United States.

The description of Salat al-Istikharah was narrated by Jabir ibn ‘Abd-Allah al-Salami, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to teach his companions to make Istikharah in all things, just as he used to teach them soorahs from the Qur'aan. He (saw) said: ‘If any one of you is concerned about a decision he has to make, (or in the version narrated by Ibn Mas'ood as: ‘if any one of you wants to do something…) then let him pray two rak'ahs of non-obligatory prayer.
