Asian Games is over. My greatest congratulations to our national team for achieving the target of 9 gold medals beating our achievement of 8 gold medals during Doha Asian Games 4 years ago. I believe all the athletes gave their best for country and for themselves. But I just still disappoint with our football team. They need more improvement.
Chef-de-mission salutes our athletes for meeting gold target
CHEF-de-mission Datuk Zolkples Embong was in a cheerful mood yesterday.
And he has good reasons to be in such high spirits following the success of the Malaysian athletes in meeting the nine-gold medal target at the Guangzhou Asian Games.
Malaysia ended their campaign in the 16th edition of the Asiad with a medal haul of 9-18-14 – their best-ever result in the history of the Games.
Zolkples, who is also the National Sports Council (NSC) director general, was beaming with pride over the country’s continued excellence in sports this year.
Just a month ago, Malaysia achieved their best-ever result in the Commonwealth Games with a medal haul of 12-10-14 in New Delhi.
“We did well in the Commonwealth Games. We achieved the nine-gold target in Asiad and it capped a great year for Malaysia sport. This is the best year since I joined the NSC in 1984,” beamed Zolkples.
He was pleased that although there were some anxious moments in waiting for the breakthough, all the sports targeted to win medals delivered the goods.
