Affordable Homes | My First Home Scheme

I was browsing some news this morning. Hoping to see some good news, if they really. So I came across this one news about young people are having difficulties to afford their very first home. The Government seems to work this problem out. But I believe we all not sure how the result will be.

On the Star Online, it is read as follow:

KUALA LUMPUR: Young people who have been complaining that they cannot afford to buy houses at affordable prices can now look forward to buy one that will be launched under a public-private partnership in two months.

The Government would provide the site and the developer would implement the project based on the industrial building system, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“If possible, they (the private sector) turn this into a corporate social responsibility project and not for profit,” he said in an interview with Hot FM radio station at Sri Pentas here yesterday.

The one-hour programme was also aired live on 8TV.

Najib said the initiative was started following comments conveyed through his Facebook page and in newspapers about the difficulties faced by the younger generation in owning a home especially in the Klang Valley.

Under the My First Home Scheme launched by the Prime Minister on March 8, those aged 35 and below, earning less than RM3,000 per month, are eligible to buy a house priced at RM220,000 and below.

On the first sight, it looks like one good thing for our young people, under the scheme as stated above, they will have chance to own their first house at affordable price. But how this scheme will really work, in the mean time, we are not even sure.

Maybe it is kinda late for this one but at least it is better late than never. We will look forward how beneficial the effort under this scheme will be.

  1. It's a good initiative by the Government to help young people like me find a home through this scheme... however, after browsing potential homes in the market I found out some unscrupulous tenants and vendors raised their house rents and prices when they knew about the scheme. So young people like me remain at square one due to this.
