Lightning Strikes More Men Than Women | Does It Become Gender Discriminate?

It's July and during June most of my entries were in Bahasa Malaysia. It is seriously not a good idea to totally stop writing English entries because I believe this is one of the English learning process instead keeping the method of teaching Maths and Science in English.

So I was looking around finding some materials to share. And I found one interesting article about how men five times more likely to be struck by lightning than women. Does lightning become gender discriminate by having tendency to kill or cause injury to men than women?

Lightning is an extraordinary phenomenon. It is beautifully dangerous. It scares kids even it scares adults. You don't want to be under the tree during lightning and you just never take risks keep going with your outdoor stuff when lightning is striking.

Men five times more likely to be struck by lightning than women - this is a result from the survey of lightning-related deaths that occured in the U.S from 1995 to 2008 as the survey was conducted by a U.S online weather service - AccuWeather.com.

82 percent from 648 people killed by lightning were men. For 2011, there have been six deaths caused by lightning struck and all we male. It must be not that nice to be killed by a struck of lightning.

"Men take more risks when it comes to lightning," John Jensenius, a lightning safety specialist of the National Weather Service, was quoted as saying by Popular Science magazine, which conducted the research with AccuWeather.com.

He added males are less willing to walk away from recreational activities or sports, involved in almost half of all lightning deaths.

Maybe it is just a nature of men. They chose to stay with their outdoor activities instead of going home even though lightning is coming over their heads. Lightning never be a gender discriminate. It just men exposed themselves to the risk. Take precautions brothers, even though how much your love to football, play it during rainy day accompany with striking lightning is just not wise.

  1. Well, lightning storms are less likely to happen in a kitchen, that's why lightnings strike men 5 times more than women. Cpt. Obvious on duty!
